South Africa is set to witness a large-scale cultural event as Fire Water Earth Productions prepares for a Guinness World Records™ attempt for the Largest Bhangra Dance at Desi Raves 2026, taking place on Saturday, 18 April at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria.

The event aims to bring together 5,000 dancers for a synchronised bhangra performance, led by choreographer Jitesh Ranchod alongside dance groups including Oriental Fire, Desi Motion Dancers, Divya Art of Dance, Darpan Kathak Dance Group, and Shamz & the Dhot Guys.

Big Brother Mzansi personality Ashay Sewlall will join the lineup alongside DJ Tira, DJ Kent, and DJ Jashmir, adding star power to a programme that blends South African and Indian music and dance cultures.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be part of Desi Raves 2026 and this Guinness World Records™ attempt. Being able to stand on one stage with thousands of people, celebrating culture, unity, and energy through dance and music, is something truly special, says Ashay Sewlall.

This is more than an event — it’s a moment in history, and I’m proud to represent that spirit alongside so many talented artists and performers.”

According to organisers, the attempt will be officially adjudicated by Guinness World Records™, with participants required to meet strict verification standards during the mass performance. The choreography will be performed in unison as part of a structured routine designed specifically for the record attempt.

“Moments like this create memories. This event is a legacy born from a dream — not for one person, but for a nation to experience unity and diversity together. From an Indian soul to a South African heartbeat, you become the moment,” says Kishore Ramharakh, Chairman, Fire Water Earth Productions.

After the attempt, the event will transition into a live music showcase featuring both local and international artists.

The lineup includes DJ Reme (India), Robot Boii, DJ Carly O, DJ Dino Bravo, DJ Desi Blue, Just Verge, DJ Nimal, DJ Adi B, DJ Dizzy D, DJ Manic Thor, DJ Neal Rain, DJ Jason 2Ray, and DJ Aves, alongside DJ Tira, DJ Kent, DJ Jashmir, and Ashay Sewlall.

Organisers say the event is designed to celebrate cultural fusion through music and dance, combining bhangra, amapiano, gqom, afro-house, and global dance sounds into one unified experience. They describe Desi Raves as an inclusive platform bringing together diverse communities through shared cultural expression.

All participants are required to arrive before the record attempt for official verification in line with Guinness World Records™ standards.

Desi Raves 2026 will take place at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, with doors opening at 16:00 and the record attempt scheduled for 17:30. Tickets range from general access at R250 to VIP packages up to R5,000.

Q&A with Kishore Ramharakh, Chairman, Fire Water Earth Productions

  1. What is the vision behind Desi Raves 2026 and the Guinness World Records™ attempt?
Desi Raves has always been about uniting people through music, dance, and shared culture. The vision behind this year’s event is to take that unity to a global stage. Attempting the Guinness World Records™ title for the Largest Bhangra Dance is about showcasing cultural pride, discipline, and togetherness on a scale South Africa has never seen before. It is not just entertainment — it is history in motion.
  2. Why was Bhangra chosen as the focus for this world record attempt?
Bhangra is one of the most energetic and expressive dance forms in the world, rooted in celebration and community. It naturally represents joy, rhythm, and unity — values that align perfectly with what Desi Raves stands for. It also allows for mass participation, which is essential for a coordinated global record attempt involving thousands of dancers.
  3. What does this event mean for cultural integration in South Africa?
South Africa is a diverse nation, and events like this highlight how different cultures can come together in a shared space without losing their identity. This is about Indian heritage meeting South African energy. It shows that culture is not separate — it is something that grows stronger when shared and experienced together.
  4. What can attendees expect on the day of the event?
Attendees can expect a highly structured world record attempt involving 5,000 dancers performing a synchronised routine, verified under Guinness World Records™ guidelines. After the record attempt, the event transforms into a full-scale music experience featuring a mix of bhangra, amapiano, afro-house, gqom, and international sounds with leading DJs from South Africa and abroad.
  5. What message do you hope the world takes away from Desi Raves 2026?
The message is simple: unity through culture. This event proves that music and dance can bridge differences and create something powerful and memorable. We want the world to see South Africa not only as a participant in global culture, but as a leader in creating moments that bring people together on a massive scale.

Johannesburg, South Africa – March 27, 2026 – South African music powerhouse DJ Zinhle shakes up the music scene once again with the release of her highly anticipated new single, “Ezothando,” available today across all digital platforms.

A groundbreaking collaboration, Ezothando brings together a dynamic lineup of seven artists: Cebo, Mmata Magic, C Phe SA, Msindo Listo, Thobani White, and Nayvee Womculo, alongside DJ Zinhle herself.
